The first answer in the “What do you eat in New York” game is always pizza. However, gone is the need for New York pizza to be synonymous with fat, oversized slices from Little Italy. Enter Motorino, a space that elevates pizza from a sidewalk snack to a rose and chill level of meal.
Our first stop in New York was of course, for pizza. After a quick walk to Columbus Street, we arrived at Motorino. Sara recommended Motorino as one of her favorite pizza places in the city. After a quick glance at the menu, I knew that we’d find something that we both could like. Opting to get the Lunch Prix Fix meal (Mixed Greens Salad and any Pizza), I ordered the Sopressata Super Piccante (Fior di latte, Soprpessata, oregano, fresh chilies with added sweet sausage). He ordered the Dom Dom (Buffalo mozzarella, primosale, parmigiano, fresh basil and E.V. Olive Oil). The salad was fresh and lightly seasoned with a vinaigrette dressing. But the pizza… This grand, New York pizza on Columbus Street was absolutely delicious. The flavors blended well, layered with soft doughy base and quality ingredients. Of course, I’m also willing to say that the energy, vibrancy and life of being in a place I love after 10 years of being away factored into that first bite. However – all that aside – it was that good.
