The holidays are made for good cheer, celebrating friendships and great food. So, when I realized that it had been MUCH too long since I’d seen my dear friend Sara, we made plans to meet at Open Sesame.
From the moment I sat down and saw a package from Espionage waiting for me, I knew it was going to be a night to remember.
For drinks, I started with the Jalab (rose water, grape syrup infused with incense, almonds slivers) and Sara ordered wine. I must say, the jalap was light and refreshing. Easily sipped, it was a perfect, non alcoholic mood setter.
For dinner, Sara ordered the Chicken Tawook (chicken breast, garlic sauce, wild cucumber pickle, rice + spicy hummus and tabouleh salad). After deciding between two choice, I ordered the Open Sesame Combo (chicken tawook, beef kabob, kafta, garlic sauce, onion, parsley, sumac, basmati rice + spicy hummus and tabouleh salad). It was exactly what I craved. The three different meats (chicken tarok, beef kabob and ground meat kafta kabob) offered the variety of seasoned flavors I appreciate about the cuisine. The hummus wasn’t spicy to me – only flavor filled. Rounding out my plate, the tabouleh proved yet again why it is my current favorite salad style.
The freshly baked pita bread, ripped and dipped into the garlic sauce, ensured a tasty meal without leftovers.
To finish, we split the baklava. It was truly a great meal shared between two friends.
